Adaptation B: Mariner Designs

After my feedback from the interim crit I tried to develop the mariner's face design, as my previous drawings were too cartoony for the subject and the character who is very troubled and in a state of purgatory during the poem. I still attempted a simpler style but also slightly more realistic than my prior designs as to fit more to the etching/scratchboard illustrative style.

Adaptation B: Lady Life in Death Dress Designs

For Lady Life in Death's dress design, a ghostly woman who sails a ghost-like ship across the ocean with her ship mate Death, I originally decided to look at some 18th Century dresses which was the century in which the poem was written, and continued to tear apart and wear out these dresses to suit her more deathly and ghost-like character. I aim to develop these dresses so that they will fit to her description within the poem. Out of these designs I quite like 2, 3 and 5.

"Are those her ribs through which the Sun
Did peer, as through a grate?
And is that Woman all her crew?
Is that a DEATH? and are there two?
Is DEATH that woman's mate?

Her lips were red, her looks were free,
Her locks were yellow as gold:
Her skin was as white as leprosy,
The Nightmare LIFE-IN-DEATH was she,
Who thicks man's blood with cold."
