Adaptation B: Lady Life in Death Influence Map

A collection of photography, art and images that could be used as inspiration for the character 'Lady Life in Death' within the poem 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'. A common theme of these images is of 'wispy', ghostly imagery as well as decay of the skin and skeletons.

"Are those her ribs through which the Sun
Did peer, as through a grate?
And is that Woman all her crew?
Is that a DEATH? and are there two?
Is DEATH that woman's mate?

Her lips were red, her looks were free,
Her locks were yellow as gold:
Her skin was as white as leprosy,
The Nightmare LIFE-IN-DEATH was she,
Who thicks man's blood with cold."

- Description of Lady Life in Death

Adaptation B: Style Influences

For a potential style influence for my Adaptation B, I was looking at some traditional illustrations of ink and pen from the era which the Rime of the Ancient Mariner was written, which was the late 1700s, after being introduced to 'The Kraken Rum' animations. During the 1700s many of the illustrations were very detailed black ink lines to create the image. Perhaps I could look more into this use of ink and pen in a rather traditional illustrative style for Adaptation B.

Adaptation B: Ancient Mariner

Rime of the Ancient Mariner
I would like to do character and set design for three characters from the Poem 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' of the ancient mariner, the albatross, and Lady Life in Death, as well as the set design of the ghost ship. For my final outcome I would like to make a still but with some animation of the three in the set, conveying the emotion of hopelessness, death, being cursed and being owned, from the extract of the poem, and a sort of feeling of purgatory.

Some of the style idea I would like to take inspiration from Over the Garden Wall, as it has a very sombre mood of purgatory, similar to the feeling of hopeless and somewhat purgatory within the extract.

Personal Work: Gecko Dragon

I finally installed my Ugee today, and while playing around with it I ended up with a stressed and uncomfortable frilled gecko-like dragon.
